Indian Pepper Chicken

Where Living Begins

We went for dinner at our favorite neighborhood Indian restaurant. We placed our order and while we waited for our food an order was delivered to the table of three Indians next to us. The small plate was heaped with chunks of something golden brown.

I asked the man what it was, “Pepper chicken,” he answered. “Have you ever tried it?” He took his dinner plate and generously dished out his pepper chicken for me.

It smelled as fabulous as it looked. The chicken was so tender it could be cut with the edge of a sheet of paper. It was faintly sweet as I chewed.

The man’s wife asked me, “Is it spicy?

I held up my hand as a gesture to say, “wait a moment.” No … no … no … and then it hit! My mouth was aflame! The sweat…

Signs of the Times – January 2019

Looking for the Blessed Hope

Birth pains come and birth pains go. But when they return, they are always a bit stronger. They signal that something dramatic is about to happen.

In Jesus’ day, rather than discerning what was right before their very eyes (the Messiah), they asked for signs. Jesus rebuked them, saying:

“When it is evening, you say, ‘It will befair weather, for the sky is red.’And in the morning, ‘There will bea storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’Do you know how to discern theappearance of the sky, but cannotdiscernthe signs of the times?”

~Matthew 16:2-3

I wonder…would Jesus say the same to us today?

We would be wise to know what God’s Word has to say about the time and season in which we live, and to be discerning as we witness world events lining up with Scripture. The birth pains, and all that leads up to…

Stand Clear of the Unholy Thing

He Hath Said

Pray without ceasing. – 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Pray without ceasing? Then I am never to be in a place where I could not pray without ceasing. Hence, many worldly amusements without being particularized may be judged and condemned at once. Certain people believe in ready-made prayers, cut and dried for all occasions, and, at the same time, they believe persons to be regenerated in baptism though their lives are any thing but Christian; ought they not to provide prayers for all circumstances in which these, the dear regenerated but graceless sons and daughters of their church, are found? As, for instance, a pious collect for a young prince or nobleman, who is about to go to a shooting-match, that he may be forgiven for his cruelty towards those poor pigeons who are only badly wounded and made to linger in misery, as also a prayer for a religious and regenerated…

Welcome to the Weekend Roundup! – News & Views – 1/26/19

Americans were galvanized by the video clip of a 17-year-old high school student confronting Native American activist, Nathan Phillips, in Washington D.C. on Friday, January 18th. The teenager was joined by his fellow Covington Catholic High School (Park Hills, Kentucky) classmates, many of whom “taunted” Phillips and other Native Americans in his entourage, with faux Native American war chants while wearing caps with “Make America Great Again” logos. It’s obvious why politically-liberal media sources sought to exploit this incident. I personally don’t get too excited about most things that high school students do. It was unwise for the teen to engage in a stare-down contest with Phillips, but the actions of Phillips and the other Native Americans accompanying him could also easily be interpreted as confrontational and…
